Reduce smoking among at-risk patients
Kaiser Permanente - Colorado
Kaiser members having outpatient surgeries and procedures
KB designed five editions of a full-color newsletter that include content tailored to each recipient's smoking habits and lifestyle. From the pilot study onward, KB handled the look and feel, programming for the tailoring, print production and mailing of all materials.
Many current smokers are unable or unwilling to quit, but may be motivated by a potentially unrelated health issue to reduce smoking. Smoking Less, Living More is a randomized study of a harm reduction intervention for managed care patients. The study will assess the impact of the intervention among a previously underserved group of smokers: those about to undergo surgery or invasive medical procedures. Lessons learned during this project will be applied to designing recruitment and intervention procedures at Kaiser Permanente.
